Written by the groomer My columns are based on thirty plus years of grooming. I hope to share a few of the things I have learned over the years. Scrubbing Bubbles We all know our dogs need a good bath now and again. I will tell you how to accomplish this. First thing is to buy a good dog shampoo. People shampoo is not except able as it is not PH adjusted for dogs, and not safe to get in your dogs eyes. Prolonged use of poor or incorrect shampoo will lead to skin problems. Don't use products that contain allot of perfume. I know they smell good, but most dogs react to all that perfume. At TNK we use a very high end hypo allergic dog shampoo that contains no perfume. Before your wash your dog you need to remove knots and mats. The bath will make the knots bigger tighter and closer to the skin, making them harder to remove later. I wash all the dogs twice. I scrub them with a special bath brush. The next step is very important. Rinse. Rinse really, really well. When you think your done rinse one more time. No bubbles should be left on your dog. Towel and dry. If you don't dry your dog make sure you keep them inside if cold so they don't get chilled. You can always leave this messy job for the professional, me. I not only wash, dry, de knot your dog. I also include a nail trim ear cleaning pad trimming and personal area shaving. Anal gland attention if necessary. For that good smell I use a special dog cologne if desired. Lets recap 1.Choose a good dog shampoo 2.Take out knots and mats before bath 3.Rinse really well 4.Don't chill your dog Please feel free to email personal pup questions to tnkgroomer@topnotchkennelsinc.com. If you have feline questions say feline in the subject matter so that we may properly notify TNK's professional cat groomer. |
